Native Landscape + Turf Rebate

Orange County homes are served by the Municipal Water District of Orange County (MWDOC) and local retail agencies, with rebates processed through the regional SoCal WaterSmart program. The rates and rules vary by city and agency and change between program years — we verify your exact rate and current terms before any grass comes out, so the number you plan around is real.

• Rebates are paid per square foot of living turf removed — combined regional + local rates in Orange County have commonly run in the $2-$5 per square foot range depending on your agency
• You MUST apply and pass a pre-inspection before removing any grass — turf removed early is disqualified
• Programs require minimum plant coverage at maturity (typically around half the converted area) — this is a design constraint we plan for from day one
• Spray irrigation must be converted to drip or removed; some agencies add credits for rain-capture features
• Synthetic turf does not qualify as plant coverage in these programs

We design for year-round form first, bloom second — so the garden reads as intentional in February, not just April.

Natives spend their first year building roots, not show. We're straight with you about the establishment arc: a designed native garden looks composed at planting, fills in over the first two rainy seasons, and hits full character by year two or three — at which point its water use drops to a fraction of lawn and most of the maintenance cycle disappears.
